Chart shows which races in Chicago have been hit the least and the most.

While the whole state of Illinois is no longer in the ‘red zone’ of COVID-19 cases and passing on to Phase 4, Chicago was hit hard at the begining. The total deaths, up until today, is 8,486. Even though charts have still not be available for tracking Illinois COVID case demographics, the Chicago chart above demonstrates interesting findings.

The chart shows data starting from March 1, and ending on June 1. The data was taken from the Chicago Department of Public Health’s website where it is being updated daily. The race that has been impacted the most is the Latinx community, exceeding the 500 persons mark. Mean while, the lowest race impacted by COVID-19 is the Asian community.

Questions, undoubtably, arise from such data. Why is the Asian community being affected the least? What made the Black community have a decrease in their numbers after being the most impacted in April? Surely, there are many factors that weigh in resulting in these findings. The primary question to answer here: Why is the Latinx community being highgly effected the most?

An answer that seems to be the most logical and prevalent is because there are more Latinx in the ‘essential worker’ category. This shows just how important the Latinx community has been to help keep America’s businesses running then, and now.
